Indiana Schools Make List of Best Public Nursing Schools

Nursing School Almanac has released a ranking of the 100 best public nursing
schools in the country, and three Indiana schools are among them. The
Almanac’s research team compiled data on over 3,000 schools and campuses,
including four-year colleges, technical schools and universities.

Criteria used to make the rankings included the prestige and perceived value
of the school, the breadth and depth of offered nursing programs and student
success, mostly based on the NCLEX licensure examination. Each factor was
combined into an overall score.

The Indiana University School of Nursing in Indianapolis was ranked 10th on
the list. The Almanac’s research team concluded the college was the first in
National League for Nursing history to hold two simultaneous designations as
a Center for Excellence. Also touted was the fact the 1914-founded school
receives over $3 million in annual NIH funding for nursing research.

Purdue University’s School of Nursing was placed at no. 38. The university’s
unique facilities, including the Center for Nursing History, Ethics, Human
Rights, and Innovations; the Center for Nursing Education and Simulation and
the Nursing Center for Family Health, were cited as strongpoints of the
program.

Ball State University came in at no. 68 on the list of the top 100 nursing
schools. The Almanac touts that the school focuses on the use of information
technology. The nursing school also was designated a Center for Excellence
and has the 11th largest online offering in the country.
